Dealing with your overbearing mother or mother in law is one of the most difficult tasks a bride to be can face. You need diplomacy to let her know that yes - you appreciate her excitment but no she isn't in charge and no it isn't her getting married. Sometimes shouting at her will do the trick but that is really down to your individal relationship. This situation gets much harder if you don't have a father on the scene as quite often fathers can reel an objectionable mother in and remind her exactly who it is getting married. Of course when you don't have a father that is not an options.

Here are our top tips for controlling wayward mothers or mother in laws:

1. Diplomacy.
2. Gratitude. Be grateful she cares and it interested
3. Enlist trusted other family members who can fight your corner
4. Try not to lose your temper but if you are going to make sure you have your points ready and to hand to get your position across. This way you haven't wasted a horrible row for nothing.
5. Pray. Yes in these unholy times prayer might seem pointless but you know sometimes I think it works.
